Register early to get a spot for everyone on your team. We do have the capability of adding a second bus, but need to know by the end of July if there is enough interest. Register via the event page.

2. Regulated Pest Update from Cassie Russell

Japanese beetles
  • Adults are flying and starting to be found in traps. This means preventative applications of products like Intercept and Acelepryn can begin.
  • If you’re looking for more direction on what can be applied (and when) for JB control for phytosanitary measures, here is a link to the JB control infographic and article from a few months ago.
  • You can also reach out to your local CFIA office for guidance.

IMPORTANT PRODUCT UPDATES FOR BTM CONTROL:
  • The last date of use for DELTAGARD insecticide for BTM is June 24. If you have it in your shed, please have it disposed of safely.
  • Envu (formally Bayer) no longer carries this product, so we’ve had to switch the emergency use to a similar product called SUSPEND POLYZONE. Same active ingredient, but a new formulation. The label is available here.
BTM biology
  • Flight of the first generation is well underway in most regions. ALL growers should have pheromone traps up and checking them regularly. A trap is rendered useless without a viable pheromone lure; there are a few different pheromones available on the market now so make sure you read the packaging and know when to change them out. Check out the latest BMPs for details.
  • Pheromone trap captures are important and is your best indicator for the start of the next generation and optimal management times to get the second generation of BTM while eggs are hatching and larvae are small.
  • Pheromone traps are especially critical for those growing boxwood in areas you have NOT seen BTM yet. These traps will be an early warning sign that you must start managing this pest.
Spotted lanternfly
  • Sticky bands for SLF have been deployed through various regions: No SLF have been spotted this year that we are aware of (either in our traps or by the public).
  • A Minor Use registration for the product Altus was approved recently. Altus was already under an emergency use registration, so this doesn’t change much for growers other than the registration is no longer time limited.
  • The new label with the minor use is available here and can be found on the PMRA label search website.
  • Growers are encouraged to post signage wherever plants are being received/shipped at nursery facilities so that ALL Staff can recognize SLF life stages and report any sightings to their supervisors immediately.
Below are some links for signage that you can print to put around shipping areas
